Maurice Byers Chambers’ commitment to our readers begins on day one. We consider all our readers as potential members; it is in our interests as well as theirs to ensure solid professional development and satisfaction. To that end, our readers will be offered support and resources to assist in establishing successful careers at the Bar.

Our readers are required to have one tutor from the Floor, and we encourage having a second tutor from another Chambers. The Readers’ and Licensees’ Committee can assist in identifying suitable tutors from the Floor to enhance the readership experience.

We offer a varying number of readership positions each year, spread over the May and September intakes.

We invite prospective applicants to apply for readership commencing in 2026.

Applications for readership should be made via email to the Chambers Manager at no later than 17:00 on 31 January 2025. Applications must include a letter of application (of no more than one page), a curriculum vitae, and the names and contact details of two referees that may be contacted by the Readers’ and Licensees’ Committee. All applications will be treated confidentially.

After the application deadline, selected candidates will be contacted to arrange an interview. This is a guide only and applications may be considered at other times.

Our current Readers are William Bruffey, Peerce McManus and Dominic Wilcox.
